Yes, the Saudi authorities have just announced that fully vaccinated pilgrims will be allowed to perform Umrah starting from the 9th of August, 2024. This coincides with the 1st of Muharram on the Islamic Calendar. The said authorities have made the statement perfectly clear that only adult pilgrims (above 18 years of age), who are fully vaccinated, will be considered eligible to perform Umrah. Know how to Perform Umrah?

In Shari'ah, there are two types of Umrah: first is called al-Umrah al-mufradah al-mustaqillah'an al-Hajj and the other is known as al-Umrah al-mundammah ila al-Hajj. The first type of Umrah is performed independent any time of the year but the second type has to be performed with Hajj, hence called ‘the conjugate Umrah’, performed during the months of Shawwal to Zulhajj. Following are the main rituals of Umrah:

• Assuming state of Ihram from Meeqat
• Tawaaf around Khana Ka'aba
• Offering Nafal at Maqam e Ibrahim and drinking Zamzam
• Sa'y around hills of Safa and Marwa
• Coming out of Ihram or Tahlul-lul

Five points are used as Meeqat for assuming Ihram. Men's Ihram consists of two plain and unstitched sheets but women are permitted to wear clothes of daily use instead of wearing sheets of Ihram. However, they cannot cover their face and hands. After assuming Ihram, Muslim brothers and sisters have to make intention for Umrah.

They have to recite Talbiyah until they reach Khana Ka'aba. On arriving Ka'aba, pilgrims have to perform Tawaaf - seven circles around Ka'aba. The starting and ending point for this ritual is Hajar al-Aswad. On completion of Tawaaf, next Umrah's rite is offering two rakaat nafal at Maqaam Ibrahim. After this, pilgrims have to do Sa'y which is seven circuits between the mount of Safa and Marwa. The last rite after Sa'y is shaving heads for men but women have to shorten their hair just by a fingertip. Along with these, make dua and recitation as much as possible on this holy pilgrimage.
